Pollution Surveys

We were pioneers in the development of Pollution Surveys designed to identify and investigate contaminated discharges into surface water drainage and watercourses, which can have huge environmental impact. Our experienced teams use a combination of techniques from the latest in digital GPS and GIS technology, to visual identification. All sources of pollution are logged and reported.

Sonar and TISCIT

We have a reputation for the development of specialist survey techniques allowing full inspection of sewers and pipelines, which have proved difficult or even impossible to inspect. Systems which allow the survey of fully or semi-surcharged lines without the need for costly over-pumping or diversion are available, allowing engineers to fully assess the condition of pipes that have never previously been inspected.

Our Sonar Inspection System allows the survey of fully surcharged pipes and sewers, meaning that strategically important sewers can be fully inspected for structural integrity and serviceability without the need for costly over-pumping or diversion. The system can be driven or floated through the system, and also allows the accurate measurement of silts and fats in the line. The Sonar System can also be used to accurately assess silt levels and highlight obstructions in open watercourses.

Our TISCIT (Totally Integrated Sonar and Camera Inspection Technique) surveying system gives the best of both worlds when surveying of semi-surcharged pipes and sewers is required. Full CCTV images from above the waterline are integrated with sonar images from below the surface to give engineers a full picture of pipe condition. The assumption that good condition above the waterline can be extended to the condition of the invert need no longer be applied, and engineers can make decisions based on full survey results.

Laser Profiling and Lateral Inspection

The Profiler has been developed to provide pipeline engineers and contractors with very accurate empirical data on the ovality, capacity, and other conditions in new and existing pipelines. The Profiler simply attaches to one of our ROVVER or SUPERVISION cameras, and the resulting CCTV images are analysed using innovative ‘machine vision’ software. The Profiler is a necessary tool for the analysis of the true pipe condition prior to and after rehabilitation. When used as a video survey tool it can provide accuracy up to 1mm when measuring pipe size, deformation, erosion, encrustation, debris, grease, flows, lateral protrusion, surface damage and holes.

We were the first to introduce the latest Lateral Inspection technology into the UK in 2006, with the introduction of the Rico SAT200 system for the inspection of lateral drains from the mainline sewer. Due to customer demand for inspection of lateral connections on 150mm mainline sewers, a SAT150 Crawler was developed to service this requirement. The system has proved most useful for pre and post inspection of sewers on rehabilitation schemes, particularly for the identification of capped and redundant connections, and accurate identification of infiltration points. Used in conjunction with portable CCTV and jetting equipment, the system is also ideal for surveying of Section 24 sewers reducing the need for entry to private property.

Rail Division

Road Rail Jet Vac - Within our fleet of Road/Rail equipment we have the Unimog U400 chassis with rail guidance system, which operates from a specifically designed control box housed in the vehicle cab, controlling both the front and the rear systems for on and off track. We also have the Volvo FL6 models which utilize the SRS/SVABO Rail system. Jet Vacuum system: MPU750 main jetting reel with 150 metre hose 1” feed off twin fresh water saddle tanks. Performance of pump: 450GPM at 2000psi with a variety of cutting and flushing nozzles. Vacuum also features 2” and 6” suction hoses and has twin vacuum pumps to enable the suction of heavier debris together with a wash down lance. The MPU750 also has the facility for ‘look-see’ surveys CCTV camera equipment, which enables pipe surveys from 3” up to 12” to determine breakages or slipped joints in pipework. Ramps are also supplied for easy access on to line.

Typical applications include the following

  • Drain and sewer cleaning
  • Culvert cleaning
  • Catch-pit cleaning
  • Root and scale removal
  • Track housing cleaning
  • Graffiti removal

Leak Detection

The Group’s businesses are dedicated to ensuring that we offer a high quality service in the practice of Leakage Control. Our commitment to quality is paramount. The benefits of leak detection include: non-destructive leak solution; minimises disruption and property damage; reduces costs; speeds up repair; provides accurate reports and recommendations; and saves water consumption.

Winter Gritting and Snow Clearance

The Group’s businesses carry out winter gritting and snow clearance works. Gritting works are carried out on hard surfaces using spreader trucks for roads and car parks and hand spreading for footpaths. Spreader calibration as per ‘BS 1622 Spreaders for Winter’ maintenance.
